On Sunday, 8th June, we held our much-anticipated annual rowing race, with four teams taking part in the event hosted by the Stockton Sea Cadet Host Unit Boat Station in Thornaby.
All teams arrived early and were each allocated a boat, with time to practice and get familiar with the water before the races began. It was fantastic to welcome a mix of returning competitors eager to reclaim the title and enthusiastic new challengers joining for the first time.
Each team competed in two heats, rowing from Tees Bridge to Victoria Bridge, leading up to the exciting final races. Graypen and PD Ports Security battled it out for 3rd and 4th place, while the final, just like last year, featured a showdown between PD Ports Bulks and AV Dawson. Despite starting under a brief rain squall, the final race ended in sunshine, with AV Dawson emerging as the overall winner after a fiercely competitive contest.
A special shoutout goes to team Graypen for their impressive progress this year, notably steering a perfect straight line, great improvement and perhaps a sign of things to come!
The day wasn’t just about rowing—there was plenty for spectators and supporters to enjoy. With appearances from Stockton Fire Brigade, PD Ports Harbour Police, an AV Dawson cab, face painting, games, a raffle, BBQ and some incredible cakes, it was a true community celebration.
To everyone who came along, competed or cheered from the sidelines, thank you! If you enjoyed it, help us make next year even bigger and better, more teams, more fun!
